Bruce was first elected to the Victorian State Parliament
in October 1992 and was re-elected in 1999. Bruce Atkinson
represented Koonung Province in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs
until November 2006.

| Elected as a Member for
the Eastern Metropolitan Region at the 2006 state election,
his current term of office will run until November 2010 when
the next Victorian election is scheduled. |
| Bruce was a Councillor
of the City of Nunawading for 17 years prior to his election
to State Parliament, serving two terms as Mayor of the city
that subsequently merged with Box Hill to become the Whitehorse
City Council. |
| Trained as a journalist,
Bruce owned and operated a marketing and business consulting
firm prior to entering State Parliament. He has also had interests
in book and newsletter publishing and a retail business and
his business career also included experience in the management
of shopping centres and executive posts in public relations. |
| Bruce was elected Deputy
President of the Legislative Council for the current Parliament
after formerly holding Shadow Minister positions for small business,
sport and recreation and Workcover. |
| A member of the Liberal
Party since 1969, Bruce attended Nunawading Primary School and
Mitcham High School (now Mullauna College) and lives in Donvale.
