The Victorian Parliament in conjunction with Sister Cities Australia, hosted the inaugural Victorian Sister Cities Forum on 18 July 2018. Over 110 delegates attended from the consular corps, local councils, universities, and multicultural associations. This was the first of what is hoped will be a series of forums held to discuss salient topics and showcase relevant case studies that will be useful to cities looking to enhance or expand existing relationships.

Many cities, municipalities and shires in Australia have at least one sister city relationship with a city or town overseas, or within Australia with many having multiple affiliations. One of the aims for this type of forum is to provide a platform to change the perceptions that the media and community can have that sister city relationships are too much about overseas travel to nice locations. It is hoped that this forum can be the platform to begin to change those perceptions through the exchange of ideas to promote sister city relationships and discussions to encourage industry to investigate business opportunities.

Special acknowledgement goes to Ms Christina Despoteris for her hard work, time and effort in coordinating this forum.
